New York, New York

Ah, my home and all-time favorite city in the world!

There’s a reason why people are drawn towards this magical city that I call home: New York is a wonderful melting pot for every kind of traveler, and it’s known for its outstanding museums, diverse cuisines, and open-mindedness.

I want to give you a little guide here on visiting New York City, from a local’s point of view. Are you ready?

Where to stay

The Radisson Hotel

This is my personal recommendation, since the hotel is very nice, centrally located with several locations throughout the city, and it’s affordable. You’ll find two of their hotels in Midtown, and one in the financial district. During the off-season, you can easily book a room for under $100 a night, which is a bargain in New York City!

Neighborhoods

New York City consists of five boroughs: Manhattan, the Bronx, Queens, Brooklyn, and Staten Island. Most of the tourist attractions are in Manhattan, but if you have enough time, I strongly urge visitors to spend some time in the boroughs as well. The Bronx has some really nice parts, and it’s not all dangerous as portrayed in the movies, I promise!

How to travel around

The best way to get around is by subway or bus. Subways are fast and efficient, and buses give you an opportunity to see more of the city while traveling from one area to the other. You can get a weekly metro-card for a little over $30, which allows you unlimited access to all the public transportations (with the exception of trains from Grand Central or the PATH to New Jersey). Single rides at a price of $2.75 can add up, so an unlimited card is generally a better option.

Central Park – New York’s greatest beauty

There’s no other place better suited to represent New York City than magnificent Central Park. It’s wedged right between The Upper East and Upper West Side, and is the perfect place, especially during our current pandemic, for locals to spend time outdoors.

You might wonder: What can a park by itself offer? What is there to do? My answer is A whole bunch! Whether you’re looking for relaxation, physical exercise, or a place to reflect, you’ll find it all in this vast green space that New Yorkers call Central Park.

Let me compile a list of places that are worth noting and visiting when you’re visiting. One of my all-time favorite places is Bethesda Terrace and Fountain, which provides the most beautiful background for photoshoots of various sorts. Not far from there, you will discover the iconic Bow Bridge, as seen in many movies, such as Spiderman or the classic Barbara Streisand movie The Way we were. It’s also known as a romantic proposal site! Speaking of romance, Central Park weddings are gaining in popularity and offer the best of both worlds: Affordability, scenery, and easy outdoor social- distancing. Cop Cot is a great outdoor venue to explore that option.

If you’re not planning a wedding anytime soon, there’s still plenty of places to be mesmerized by at Central Park. For music lovers, I highly recommend a visit to the John Lennon Memorial Strawberry Fields, which is frequented often by musicians and die-hard Beatles fans. For Disney fanatics, Belvedere Castle is a great spot to take pictures and feel the magic! For a leisurely picnic, you might want to explore Cedar Hill or Sheep Meadow; places that are busy with couples, kids, and dogs during the warm summer days. Read more »

Las Vegas story

What to Do When You Visit Vegas

What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, or so everyone who has ever set foot within the city limits tells us, and sometimes you just need to go to a place where every night is a party and nothing is off-limits. Whether you’re headed there for a show or a bachelor party or a lost weekend, there’s plenty for you to do, and the city of sinners is the perfect opportunity to have as much fun as possible.

If you’re wondering what the city has to offer, these are a few of the best things to do in Las Vegas.

       1. Visit the Strip.

You couldn’t possibly take a trip to Sin City without visiting the iconic strip, filled with all of the landmarks you associate with Las Vegas. Check out the Bellagio Fountains, the Venetian Canal, or pretend you’re in Paris with a picture in front of the Eiffel Tower at Paris, Las Vegas. There’s plenty of opportunities to gamble of course, but these casinos have tons of other attractions from aquariums to shows to spas that you’ll definitely want to check out

      2.  See Cirque de Soleil.

Cirque de Soleil is known for taking circus acrobatics to a whole new level. This is beyond The Greatest Show on Earth. The performances are inspired by various natural elements and cultural icons from the Beatles to water to fire to Michael Jackson. There are plenty of options for you to choose from and numerous locations to see the shows. Make sure to book your tickets in advance!

      3. Check out the Mob Museum.

Back when Las Vegas had a seedy underbelly that could not be contained, the Mob ran the city and law enforcement was struggling to catch up. In the building that formerly housed Las Vegas’s Federal Courthouse, visitors can now investigate the interactive exhibits that illustrate Las Vegas’s mob history. The big names featured include Al Capone, Buggy Siegel, and John Gotti, not to mention the dedicated lawmen that ultimately put them away. J. Edgar Hoover and Eliot Ness are also featured.

      4. Visit Freemont Street.

The Strip isn’t the only iconic area you don’t want to miss! Freemont street is home to a cast of eccentric street performers, homegrown artists and musicians, and much more. It’s also home to some of the older hotels and casinos in Vegas, so if you’re looking for a more historic taste of Sin City, you’ll definitely want to take a look at Freemont Street!
